Padel Rules

Welcome to Flokysocks! In this blog, we delve deep into the rules of padel, a dynamic and rapidly growing sport gaining popularity worldwide. Whether you're a beginner or looking to elevate your game, understanding the rules is essential for a good playing experience.

What is Padel?

Padel is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. It is typically played in doubles on a rectangular court surrounded by walls, which are actively used during the game. The unique blend of techniques and tactics makes padel both challenging and enjoyable.

Basic Padel Rules The Court

A padel court is 10 meters wide and 20 meters long, with a net dividing it into two halves. The walls around the court are usually made of glass and metal mesh, and they are actively used during the game.

Scoring

The scoring in padel is the same as in tennis:

  • 0 points = "Love"
  • 1 point = 15
  • 2 points = 30
  • 3 points = 40
  • 4 points = Game (with a difference of 2 points)
  • In case of a tie, it's "deuce," and you play for advantage-disadvantage. A set is won by the team that first wins 6 games with a difference of at least 2 games. In case of a tie at 6-6, a tiebreak is played.

The Serve

  • The serve must be underhand and diagonal to the opposite service box.
  • The ball must first hit the ground and may then bounce off the wall.
  • The server must stand behind the service line and hit the ball below hip height.
  • The ball must not bounce at the service and hit the fence.

Gameplay

  • The game starts with a serve.
  • After the serve, the ball may bounce once before being returned.
  • The ball may also hit the walls after bouncing on the ground.
  • Players may return the ball directly or using the walls.

The Walls

One of the unique aspects of padel is the use of walls. The ball may hit the opponent's walls after bouncing on the ground. This creates new strategic opportunities and makes the game more dynamic.

Faults

A fault is made if:

  • The ball hits directly against a wall of the opponent without first touching the ground.
  • The ball bounces more than once on the same side of the net.
  • The ball lands outside the court lines.

Tactics and Strategies

Padel is not just a physical game but also a mental one. Some important tactics include:

  • Positioning: Stay close to the net for an attacking position. Move forward after serving.
  • Communication: Work together with your partner to cover the court well.
  • Strategy: Ensure you play the ball deep to force the opponent to use the wall.
